Lawrence, MA

Canal Street is an urban minor arterial serving as the gateway to downtown Lawrence. Green was contracted by the City of Lawrence to provide design services for replacing the traffic signals at the intersection of Canal Street and Union Street and improving the intersection geometry for truck turning movements. The length of the project was 900 feet and was designed in accordance with MassDOT standards.

We provided landscape services for the bridge replacement project which included the intersection of Canal Street, Marston Street, and Prospect Street. The goal was to define this intersection as the gateway to the City. Improvements at the intersection include planting trees along the southwest side of Marston Street to screen the buildings and providing colored textured pavement and plantings within the medians and traffic islands to identify this intersection as a welcoming point to the City. A key element of the design is a landscaped seating area located on the old bridge which will provide a peaceful location for viewing the Spicket River. The project included preparing land acquisition plans and documents for the City to obtain rights of entry for construction purposes from the abutters.
