Green has been on three different design teams for MassDOT’s Route 128 Add-a-Lane mega-project. Initial contracts for the Route 128 Add-a-Lane Project included contracts to widen the existing bridges for the project area to accommodate the new highway lane. Our responsibilities included all utility modifications related to the bridge and roadway work, including drainage, water, sewer, and other utilities. Impacts to abutting properties were minimized by raising the proposed roadway profile to a minimum amount.
For two other contracts (Bridge IV and Bridge V), we were responsible for drainage design, utilities design, preparation of the Drainage and Stormwater Reports to accompany the Notice of Intent Application, supplemental survey to support the final design, and support for cost estimating, specifications, and design reviews.
As part of our scope of work, we addressed various environmental issues and concerns associated with the project area which is tributary to the Charles River. We also assessed existing and proposed watershed areas along the entire corridor of both these widening projects. The work involved identifying all watershed and resource areas within the project limits, simulating runoff from the existing and proposed watershed areas, and delineating the watershed areas. The watershed areas were subdivided into sub-areas and were delineated utilizing USGS topographic maps and available topographic plans.
