Inspections & ratings

MBTA (2 Contracts)

Statewide – Massachusetts

For this bridge inspection contract, Green was responsible for the inspection and load rating of twenty-six bridges on the Middleboro, Framingham, and Shore Line commuter rail lines. Inspections and load ratings were performed in accordance with the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Bridge Inspection Handbook, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) National Bridge Inspections Standard Regulation, MBTA Railroad Operations Commuter Rail Design Standards Manual, and AREMA.

These bridges included in-depth and fracture critical inspections of various types of structures, including thru-girder, multi-stringer, prestressed butted beams, double box culvert, stone arch, concrete arch, multi-plate arch, brick arch, and concrete encased steel beams. Inspection forms and reports were generated that included short-term and long-term maintenance recommendations. Where plans were not available, Green obtained and oversaw non-destructive or limited destructive testing that was necessary to obtain dimensions and/or reinforce the structure, including ground penetrating radar, sonic/ultrasonic measurements, impact-echo testing, probing, and/or material testing. Rating reports were generated, and short-term and long-term maintenance and rehabilitation recommendations were prepared.
